Are you grinding or clenching your teeth?

Our ever busy and sometimes stressful lives could be contributing to teeth grinding and jaw pain. This may also lead to fractured teeth and fillings and a disrupted nights sleep. So what can we do to help?

Keep Up Your Routine

Ensure you do not neglect your oral hygiene routine, as this will aid in the protection of weaker enamel through poor diet or lifestyle.   Ensure you always brush your teeth at least twice a day, with a fluoride toothpaste, starting when you wake up and before bed and floss once per day

Modify diet

make sure we are eating a balanced diet and cut back on sugary snacks between meals. You can also chew sugar-free gum between meals and incorporate mouthwash into your routine. Avoid late night eating and limit intake of alcohol and sweets

Regular Checks Ups

Make sure you maintain your regular dental health checks to ensure any changes are detected early. Prevention is better than the cure, the dentist can discuss options with you including sleeping aids to protect your teeth at night.

Occlusal Splint Therapy

Your dentist can asses wear of your teeth and fillings, you may have noticed some chipped teeth or increased sensitivity in the teeth.  You may also have pain and tension in the jaws and neck.A splint might be needed to stabilise the bite and help relieve symptoms.
